I remember seeing this picture of Sao Paulo just over a year ago before I moved over. Feeling petrified, this picture showcased how Sao Paulo looked like an intimidating city... Unfortunately, the reality doesn't fall from that unless you allow it for it to become home. Sao Paulo isn't a city full of beautiful historical buildings (and the ones it does have are generally poorly kept), it is always full of traffic, it has litter and it's chaotic.

Home again
There is something magical about travelling, an incredible and unique feeling of self-discovery. It's you, your dreams and fears - it's an exciting and unknown journey. Yet, there is something even greater than that: it's allowing a new place to become home.
A year later as I look at this picture, without realising, I had one of my best days standing from a place near where this random internet picture was taken. I remember standing on this beautiful roof-top, above one the oldest buildings in Sao Paulo, over-looking the city with the sun-shining and feeling overwhelmingly blessed. This city that looked so chaotic once upon time felt like home. Why? Because I learnt to love to love every single aspect about it. I learnt to find what I like about life in it. I found the historical buildings I so much cherish, I found the order in the chaos that left me shaken me up at first, and I found a family in a big, big city of strangers.
This for me is the greatest gift of travelling and change, you learn so much about yourself. You learn to accept the situations that life presents and learn how to make that 'homely'. No one likes big changes at first, but with time, we learn to recognise that change is often a hugely magical gift that life presents us with.
